Arkansas Choral Connections
Summer In-service Opportunity 
Where: University of Central Arkansas – Snow Fine Arts Building
When:  July 12th – 17th 
Cost:  IT’S FREE – Up to 20 hrs available
Housing:  $185.00 -  5 nights room and board/ 3 meals per day (UCA)
Registration:  SFA Room 126 – July 13th – 3:00pm-6:00pm
    Arkansas Choral Connections is in its 19th season of operating a summer choir camp at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.  400 students attend this camp each year and this year we are adding a new component to our camp.  You will be able to come and observe teaching techniques and procedures from some of our states finest teachers.   You will have the opportunity to observe mixed ensembles, show choirs, male and female chorus, a 215 voice high school mass choir, and warm-up techniques.    At the end of each rehearsal will be a short question and answer period where you can ask questions about the rehearsal.  If you are interested in sending students to this camp, please visit @  www.accchoircamp.org

Monday July 12, 2010 
6:00 pm– 7:00pm (1 hr Credit) JH/MS Session
 VOICING ADOLECENT MALE SINGER-  One hour of actual voicing of 7-9th grade students.  We will discuss different voice types and classifications.  A must for the JH teacher.

7:00 pm– 9:00 -(2 hr Credit)   MS SESSION/ JH SESSION /  HS SESSION
 FIRST IMPRESSIONS  - How to begin at the beginning.  A real look at the first time a director steps foot into a rehearsal.  Focus on  warm-ups, ice breakers, tone development, basic technique, posture, breath.  Observe first hand teaching techniques and then round table with the director for 15min question and answer.

Tuesday July 13, 2010 
8:30am – 9:00am  (1/2 hr Credit)   MS SESSION/ JH SESSION /  HS SESSION
WARM UPS - Observing the process of the choral warm-up, followed by a breakdown, hand-out and Question and answer period

9:00am-10:00am - (1 hr Credit)    MALE CHORUS/ FEMALE CHOURS SESSIONS
INTRODUCING A NEW PIECE – Teachers will have the choice of watching 4 different rehearsals.  HS Men or Women and JH Men or Women.  See how a director introduces a piece of music.  15 min question and answer to follow.

10:00am-11:30am -  (1 1/2 hr Credit)    MS/JH/HS SESSIONS
INTRODUCING A NEW PIECE – Teachers will have the choice of watching 3 different rehearsals.  10-12 Mixed, 9th grade Mixed, or 7-8 Mixed Men or Women and JH Men or Women.  See how a director introduces a piece of music.  15 min question and answer to follow.

12:30pm-2:000pm -  (1 1/2 hr Credit)    MS/JH/HS SESSIONS

Saturday July 17, 2010 

3:00pm – 4:30pm   JH/HS Session
FINAL CONCERT  PERFORMANCE- (1 1/2hr Credit)     – See the final product from rehearsals that you have seen all week.  Observe how directors ask their students to carry themselves during a performance from how students are brought to stage and how they get to windows on the risers.  Observe conducting techniques.
